Your Georgia visit

Can this start online?

Georgia’s medical board summary from January 2024 says an exam in person is generally needed before a first prescription.

The board’s short summary does not explain every situation the detailed rules allow.

The more detailed Georgia online-care rule, recorded in September 2026, allows these situations:

The health professional has already examined you in person and is continuing your care online.

A Georgia doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner who examined you in person asks another health professional to treat you online.

That request is a route to online care with the second health professional; it does not settle the rules for a first prescription.

Another route uses technology that lets the health professional examine you at least as well as in person.

The rule does not say which phone or video call, or answers given online, would meet that test for your health problem.

Ask this in plain words

“What do you need to check during my exam, and how will you check it through the screen?”

“Will I need an exam in person before a prescription? Which rule applies to my visit?”

As of September 2026, the online health professional must give you their name, qualifications, and contact details for urgent help.

Georgia’s rule also requires any tests needed to find out what health problem you have, as of September 2026.

An online visit does not remove the need for those tests.

For example, a needed blood test still needs to happen; answering questions on a screen cannot replace it.
